Kodak Tri-X 400
This black and white film recipe inspired by Kodak Tri-X 400 was created to bring a quieter, more timeless atmosphere into everyday photography.
Not as a clinical monochrome conversion, but as an attempt to recreate the feeling of classic documentary film photography — the kind of images that feel personal, honest, and emotionally present without relying on dramatic editing or excessive contrast.
People were especially important during development, because black and white photography is most powerful when it feels human and believable. Skin retains softness and detail, expressions stay natural, and everyday moments gain a quiet emotional weight without appearing staged or overly dramatic.
Like all GrainyWeekly film recipes, this one was designed to feel complete straight out of camera. A recipe that quietly turns ordinary moments into something more reflective and emotional without demanding attention for itself.
Because sometimes the strongest black and white images are not the ones with the most contrast or the heaviest grain — but the ones that simply preserve a feeling exactly as it was.
Developed and validated on the Lumix S9.
Expected to produce similar results on S5II and S5IIX bodies.
